ActiveXplorer v4 (discontinued)
Product discontinuation notice
ActiveXplorer is no longer available. ActiveXplorer was a library file viewer and manager for Windows. Originally released in 2000, ActiveXplorer was discontinued in 2015 as part of a normal product lifecycle. We thank all our customers who have chosen ActiveXplorer. Existing licenses are still valid.
There are hundreds of libraries on your computer. What are they doing there? Are they installed correctly? What's in them? ActiveXplorer was a library file manager and analyzer for COM libraries - ActiveX controls, TLBs, DLL and EXE servers - and .NET assemblies.
Your component is ready, but the help file is rather undone? Found a new component but no docs? ActiveXplorer created the missing documentation - CHM, HTML, or RTF - in a minute.
Why did one need ActiveXplorer?
See inside components. Analyze them. What classes, methods and properties do they contain?
Document components. Automatically generate full technical documentation for binary files. List installed files and document their contents.
Escape DLL Hell. Solve installation problems, find missing files, and register files correctly.
Compatibility and version notes
.NET compatibility. ActiveXplorer covers features of the .NET framework v1.x. Features introduced in .NET v2.0 or later are not covered. The .NET framework is not required for ActiveXplorer to run.
Upgrade policy. Minor version updates (bug fixes) were free within v4.x.
The last version of ActiveXplorer was v4.0.204.
Windows Vista compatibility
ActiveXplorer v4 is not readily compatible with Windows Vista. One can run it on Vista by the following instructions:
1. Install Visual Basic 5.0 run-time files (msvbvm50.dll)
Download from Microsoft: http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb50pro/utility/1/win98/en-us/msvbvm50.exe
This step is necessary only if you get a warning about missing msvbvm50.dll.
2. Set to run as Administrator. Right-click the ActiveXplorer shortcut, select Properties and set the Privilege Level to "Run this program as an administrator". ActiveXplorer is system utility and it requires administrator privileges to run.
Tool with related functionality
If you use ActiveX or .NET libraries in a Visual Basic project, you can view them with Project Analyzer Enterprise Edition. It's a tool that reads Visual Basic source code and the binary components it uses. Not included with ActiveXplorer.
